Lviv has seen the working visit of foreign experts who will consult our city in its development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan. The visit lasted from 13th to 17th of September, 2018.
This was the first visit of experts after they were chosen in the competition within the Integrated Urban Development in Ukraine project, there Lviv participates since March 2018. The competition was held by Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
The foreign experts are an integrated team of several organizations from Switzerland and Germany, and namely:
Basler&Hofmann consulting company (Zurich, Switzerland) is represented by Ulrike Huwer and Manuel Oertle,
Urs Thomann represents the company Van de Wetering Atelier für Städtebau (Zurich, Switzerland)
and Burkhard Horn, Berlin, Germany who is an independent expert in sustainable urban mobility planning.
The foreign experts will be consulting the Working Group on Development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Lviv consisting of representatives of city administration and local experts on urban mobility, on compiling this document. The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) is a strategic document, intended to define the policy of Lviv regarding satisfaction of people’s and good’s needs in movement around the city and in connection with the region by 2030.
The working visit started with the “Transport Tour” around Lviv when foreign guests had opportunity to try different transport modes and see different districts of Lviv, and namely: walk through the city center, travel by bus to Riasne 2, travel from Riasne to Sykhiv by share taxi, try NextBike rental from Sykhiv to Petrushevycha Sq. (center), travel to main railway station by tram and then by suburban train to Pidzamche station.
On the second day of their visit, the foreign experts introduced themselves, told about their working experience, after what Lviv team informed the foreign guests on the transport situation in Lviv.
Besides, the foreign experts held a meeting with the city authorities where they had an opportunity to convey their mission and hear the vision of top and medium managers regarding development of Lviv in terms of sustainable urban mobility.
The visit of foreign guests coincided with the start of the European Mobility Week (EMW), and on Saturday, 15th of September, they had a public meeting with all the interested people in Urban Library of Lviv where they’ve told about the principles of planning and operating the sustainable mobility in Switzerland and Germany. Besides, Orest Oleskiv, the manager of the City Institute, has presented the concept of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Lviv.
Already on Monday, 17th of September, the participants were planning their further joint activities. The foreign guests were satisfied with their visit and told about their positive impressions from Lviv. They have also noticed numerous positive changes towards sustainable mobility in the urban space, though are aware of multiple challenges on the way of city’s transport system arrangement.
